The head of Danone predicted a decrease in consumption of dairy products by 20%
Reducing the consumption of dairy products will be good for the health of the planet and people, believes Faber. First of all, the reduction will affect milk and cheese, to a lesser extent - dairy products, as they are necessary because of the amino acids contained in them. According to Rosstat, in 2018, a resident of Russia on average consumed 229 kg of dairy products per year, writes RBC.
Each generation has different reasons for the decline in meat and milk consumption, said Faber. According to him, young people are more concerned about the state of the planet, and consumers aged 25-35 years think not only about the environment, but also about their own health. Older people are primarily concerned about their health. According to the top manager, the modern diet does not contribute to human health, and agricultural techniques have a negative impact on the soil and lead to the loss of biodiversity. "There is a risk that in one generation the land will cease to be fertile and we will not be able to use it", Faber warned.
Now the consumption of dairy products in the world is growing by about 3% per year due to the markets of India, Africa and China, said Faber. Plant-based products bring Danone about 15% of revenue, in the future Danone plans to triple their sales. As an alternative to milk, the company plans to start production of plant-based beverages.
Danone is one of the largest milk producers in the world. The company has already announced plans to create a milk-free yogurt, which could affect the company's flagship brands such as Activia and Actimel. If the consumer likes to have a choice between dairy and alternative types of products, the company should provide it, said a representative of Danone.
