The head of the Ministry of agriculture of Orel has ordered to work out measures to increase the number of cattle in farms of the region

According to the Head of the Department of agriculture of Orel region Sergey Borzenkov, in 2017 subsidies for acquiring pedigree stock in farms in the region have been increased by 70 million rubles. This will allow you to purchase at least 1,500 cows by the end of the year. Another feasible measure is the construction of a new livestock complex in the Novosil district (estimated herd size is 2,400 animals). In 2017 in the framework of the support program of livestock breeding 50 million rubles has been allocated for these purposes. 

According to Orelstat, in January-October 2017 the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter amounted to 120.7 thousand tons (117.5% to 2016). Peasant farms produced 1328 t of meat products (101.8%).

The productivity of dairy cattle in the agricultural organizations amounted to 4342 kg of milk, which is 248 kg above the level of 2016.

The total number of cattle is 154.2 thousand heads, including 41.9 thousand cows (106.6%). The number of pigs on November 1, 2017 was 409.9 thousand head (115% to 2016). The number of sheep and goats is 60.5 thousand (100.1%), including 5.1 thousand head kept in agricultural organizations (107.3%). Poultry – 3268.7 thousand head (111.6%), including 1464.8 thousand head kept in agricultural organizations (152.1%).

For the successful wintering 446 livestock buildings for cattle were prepared in the summer-autumn period. All cattle livestock was moved to winter stables in time, except specialized beef cattle that is kept outdoors in the course of the year.

In all categories of farms there have been harvested 117 thousand tons of hay (106% of needs), 294 thousand tons of haylage (105%), 543 thousand tons of silage (112%). Grain forage has been harvested in full amount for all kinds of farm animals and poultry – more than 500 thousand tons.
