The Ministry of agriculture expects an increase in ice cream exports by 5-10% per year
‘According to the Federal customs service, the average annual increase in exports of this type of product was about 14%. Therefore, according to the Ministry of agriculture, in the short term, we can forecast an average growth in supplies of 5-10% per year,’ reported in the Ministry of agriculture.
However, the Ministry did not rule out that the situation with the closure of markets and the general reduction in world trade volumes due to the new coronavirus pandemic may make adjustments to the forecast. According to the Ministry of agriculture, the export of Russian ice cream is one of the most successful directions in the supply of dairy products abroad and provides almost 20% of the total supply of this segment in value terms. According to the Federal customs service, at the end of 2019, the volume of ice cream deliveries reached 22 thousand tons, which is 12% higher than in 2018. In value terms, exports of this type of product reached 53.4 million dollars, which is 12.5% more than a year earlier.
At the same time, foreign deliveries of Russian ice cream continue to grow, and in January - June 2020, exports of Russian ice cream increased by 21.6% in physical terms and by 14.4% in value relative to the same period in 2019 - to 53.3 thousand tons and 34.2 million dollars, respectively. ‘The share of exported ice cream from the total volume of product produced in Russia is 5.4%. Taking into account the complexity of its transportation (deliveries must be carried out by refrigerated containers or vehicles with a "glacier" body), this is a good indicator,’ explained in the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.
According to the Ministry, the main volume of demand and, consequently, the supply of ice cream falls on the hottest months - from April to August.
According to statistics, in 2019, Russian manufacturers supplied ice cream to 38 countries. The top five last year included Kazakhstan, whose market was supplied with ice cream for $ 19.5 million, which is 36.6% of the total supply, Mongolia ($5.5 million, or 10.4%), Ukraine ($4.5 million, or 8.5%), China ($3.7 million, or 6.9%) and Belarus ($3.5 million, or 6.6%).
Thus, the vast majority of exports fall on Russia's closest neighbors, which, as explained in the Ministry of agriculture, is a direct consequence of the "short transport shoulder" factor in the sale of products.
At the same time, the relatively stable structure of exports over the past five years has seen an increase in the supply of Russian ice cream to the Chinese market - from 3.9% in 2015 to 6.9% in 2019. In general, Asian markets, according to representatives of the Ministry of agriculture, are the most promising direction for the development of Russian ice cream exports.
