The Ministry of agriculture: for 8 months milk production in Russia amounted to 21.5 million tons

By the assessment of the Ministry of agriculture of Russia for 8 months of 2017 the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight on farms of all categories amounted to 8.7 million tons, which is by 4.4% more than in the corresponding period last year, reports The DairyNews with reference to the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation.
The production of pigs for slaughter in live weight, according to the Ministry of agriculture of Russia increased by 4.5%, poultry – by 6.5%, sheep and goats – by 3.0%. At the same time, the production of cattle for slaughter in live decreased by 1.2%. Egg production on farms of all categories amounted to 30.4 billion pieces (+3.1%).
Milk production for January-August this year on farms of all categories increased by 0.6% compared to the corresponding period in 2016 and amounted to $ 21.5 million tons. Milk yield per cow at agricultural enterprises not related to small business amounted to 4295 kg, which is by 247 kg or by 6.1% more than the year before.
On 1 September 2017 the number of cattle on farms of all categories amounted to 19.5 million heads or 99.0% compared to the corresponding period in 2016, including cows – 8.3 million heads or 99.1%. The number of pigs amounted to 23.7 million heads (+1.5%), sheep and goats – 26.8 million heads or (-0,8%), birds at agricultural enterprises – 470.8 million heads or (+5.1%).
