The number of cattle in Russia continues to decline

As on December 1, 2016 the number of cattle in all categories of farms amounted to 18.9 million heads, that is 1.7% or by 300,0 thousand heads less than on the same date last year.
The number of cows decreased by 2.4% (200,0 thousand heads) to 8.2 million heads.
At agricultural organizations of the Russian Federation the number of animals is also reducing. In January-November 2016, it declined by 0.8% (67.6 thousand heads) to 8 328,6 thousand heads in comparison with the same period of 2015. The number of cows in this category of farms decreased by 1.0% (-33,8 thousand heads) and made 3 323,8 thousand heads.
In January-November 2016 the production of beef amounted to 466,7 thousand tons in slaughter weight (818,8 thousand tons in live weight), which is by 2.3% or 10.4 million tons of slaughter weight more than it was produced in January-November 2015.
For eleven months of 2016, the total volume of import of beef and offal to Russia from countries outside the Customs Union amounted to 272.6 thousand tons. Compared to the same period last year exports of beef decreased by 26.3% or 97.3 thousand tons.
