The price of milk has started to rise again

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 0.3% to 26.4 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg, which is 4.7% higher than the price in early July 2020. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Stavropol, Krasnodar and Tula regions. The increase in prices of milk was observed in Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod and Saratov regions.

It is worth reminding that to get access to information about the prices for raw milk in all regions of Russia, users need to be registered on the page of Index DIA and enter current data on the price of raw milk.

The import price index decreased by 0.11% to 36.06 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg, compared to the level of early July 2020, the indicator is 15.5% higher. A key factor in the decline of the indicator was the decrease in the price of butter and whey powder at the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade. At the same time, the prices of butter continued to rise at the BUCE auction, the average price of butter increased by 0.5% last week. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade, prices of butter and whey powder decreased while prices of skimmed milk powder and cheese remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the weakening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, decreased by 1.2% to 328.4 rubles (about 3.77 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 0.09% to 306.7 rubles (about 3.52 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 0.09% to 220.4 rubles (about 2.53 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder decreased by 4.8% to 82.9 rubles (about 0.95 euros)/kg.  

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter decreased by 0.05% to 39.73 rubles (about 0.46 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey decreased by 0.15% to 33.97 rubles (about 0.39 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 29.92 rubles (about 0.34 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA

Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Agency developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
