The price of milk in Russia began to grow

On August 9, Dairy Index DIA amounted to 28.89 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 0.2% higher than last week and 5.5% higher than in August 2020. According to the Index DIA application, the key factor in the growth of the index was the increase in the weighted average price of milk in Russia; the import price also increased due to the increase in prices for exchange-traded dairy products.

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 0.3% to 26.31 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg, which is 4.6% higher than the price in August 2020. Prices for raw milk decreased in Moscow and Belgorod regions. The increase in prices of milk was observed in Altai region, the Republic of Tatarstan and Krasnodar region.

The import price index increased by 0.03% to 36.16 rubles (about 0.42 euros)/kg, compared to August 2020, the indicator is 8% higher. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade, the prices of butter and whey powder increased, the prices of skimmed milk powder and cheese remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, increased by 1% to 333.6 rubles (about 3.86 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar decreased by 0.2% to 298.9 rubles (about 3.46 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder decreased by 0.2% to 212.3 rubles (about 2.46 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 0.2% to 81.4 rubles (about 0.94 euros)/kg.

At the Global Dairy Trade auction of August 3, 2021, the price index for dairy products decreased by 1%, the price of whole milk powder decreased while the prices for butter and skimmed milk powder increased.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.12% to 40.42 rubles (about 0.47 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey decreased by 0.03% to 33.8 rubles (about 0.39 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder decreased by 0.33% to 30.39 rubles (about 0.35 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA

Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Agency developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
