The price of milk in Russia has decreased

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia decreased by 0.3% to 26.32 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg, which is 4.4% higher than the price in July 2020. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Ulyanovsk, Altai and Krasnodar regions. The increase in prices of milk was observed in Leningrad, Samara and Yaroslavl regions.

The import price index increased by 0.28% to 36.16 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg, compared to the level of July 2020, the indicator is 14.5% higher. A key factor in the growth of the indicator was the weakening of the ruble. At the same time, the prices of butter at the BUCE auction decreased by 0.6%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade, prices of skimmed milk powder and cheeses decreased; prices of butter and whey powder remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the weakening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, increased by 2.7% to 337.3 rubles (about 3.83 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 1.3% to 310.7 ruble(about 3.53 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 0.7% to 221.9 rubles (about 2.52 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder decreased by 2.7% to 85.2 rubles (about 0.97 euros)/kg.  

The 287th auction of GDT (Global Dairy Trade) of July 6, 2021 again ended with a decline. The price index for dairy products decreased by 3.6%, prices for all key exchange-traded dairy products decreased.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.38% to 39.88 rubles (about 0.45 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.18% to 34.03 rubles (about 0.39 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder decreased by 0.13% to 29.88 rubles (about 0.34 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA

Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Agency developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
