The Rosselkhoznadzor has destroyed 27.6 thousand tons of sanctions products since August 2015
"As part of the execution of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On certain special economic measures applied to ensure the safety of the Russian Federation" the Rosselkhoznadzor detained 27,903 tons of prohibited products (26,746 tons of plant products and 1,157 tons of animal products) as of April 1, 2019. Out of them 27,624 tons are destroyed", - says the message.
At the end of July 2015 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the destruction of products prohibited for import into the country under anti-sanctions measures (the so-called food embargo) starting since August 6 the same year. The government allowed such food products to be destroyed in any legal way.
This measure is not applied to goods imported by citizens for personal use. According to the Russian authorities, the destruction of sanctions products helps to reduce the flow of food smuggling, as it becomes economically unprofitable.
