The Rosselkhoznadzor has restricted the import of cattle from two regions of Germany into Russia
"Because of the deterioration of the epizootic situation on the territory of Germany due to bluetongue disease since January 31, 2019 there were imposed restrictions on import of cattle and small cattle, wild, zoo and circus animals susceptible to bluetongue, camels and other representatives of the camelidae family (llama, Alpaca, vicuna), semen of bulls, rams and bucks into the Russian Federation from the territory of the Federal States of Germany Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland ", - says the document.
Temporary restrictions are also imposed on the transit of cattle and small cattle and susceptible animal species from these lands across the Russian Federation.
As reported, the Rosselkhoznadzor also imposed temporary restrictions on import of cattle and small cattle and camels from the territory of the German Federal state of Baden-Württemberg due to the same disease since December 28.
Bluetongue (catarrhal fever of sheep) is a viral vector-borne infection of domestic and wild ruminants, mainly sheep, characterized by a feverish state, inflammatory and necrotic lesions of the oral cavity, especially the tongue, digestive tract, Corolla epithelium and hoof skin basis, as well as degenerative changes in skeletal muscles.
Now the disease is registered on all continents, there is a tendency of its distribution in Northern regions. In the event of bluetongue in previously prosperous areas, the incidence reaches 90%, the mortality rate is 70-90% and the occurrence of stationary nidus of infection is possible. Prevention is based on preventing the introduction of the virus.
