The Russian government has extended the rules of destruction of sanctions products for 2020
In June the validity of food embargo by the decree of the President was extended for a year, until the end of 2020. The destruction of contraband products from countries under sanctions has been going on since August 6, 2015 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation ("On certain special economic measures used to ensure the security of the Russian Federation").
As reported by the Rosselkhoznadzor on August 5, during this time 32.19 thousand tons of such products were destroyed, including 31.1 thousand tons of plant products and 1.09 thousand tons of animal products. In particular, this year 5.4 thousand tons of plant and 133 tons of livestock products were destroyed.
The food embargo was imposed by a presidential decree of August 6, 2014 against countries that imposed or supported anti-Russian sanctions. It initially applied to products from the US, the EU, Australia, Norway and Canada. Since August 13, 2015 the list of these countries included Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein, which joined the anti-Russian sanctions, and Ukraine since January 1, 2016. First, the ban was introduced for one year. In 2015, it was extended until August 5, 2016, in June 2016 - until the end of 2017, in June 2017 – until the end of 2018, in July 2018 - until the end of 2019, in June 2019 – until the end 2020. Meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, fish and fish products, vegetables and fruits are under the ban. Since October 27, 2017, live pigs, with the exception of purebred pedigree animals, as well as the supply of by-products and animal fat, animal butter are under the ban.
