Dairy farmers in the UK have asked for help from the government because of problems caused by the spread of coronavirus in the country, writes The DairyNews with reference to ft.com.
It is predicted that the affected farms will have to drain about 1000 tons of unclaimed milk per week. The reason is a decrease in demand due to the closing of catering outlets and a drop in prices.
On Tuesday evening, the Royal Association of British dairy farmers asked the Government to "reimburse the losses of dairy farms".
In general, the UK produces about 35 thousand tons of milk per day. Within a week, the price of milk has fallen from 20p to 15p a litre. Despite a certain safety buffer created during the period of high demand for dairy products a few weeks ago, the industry organization states that about 300 farmers are in urgent need of state support.
