From August 6, 2015 to June 4, 2018 the Rosselkhoznadzor destroyed 24.6 thousand tons of products that illegally came from the countries that fell under the Russian food embargo, the Department reports.
During this period 24.9 thousand tons of contraband products were detained, most of all - 24.05 thousand tons - crop products.
The destruction of contraband products from "sanctions" countries has been going on since August 6, 2015 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On certain special economic measures used to ensure the security of the Russian Federation" (signed on July 29, 2015).
The food embargo has been in effect in Russia since August 7, 2014 for products from the USA, EU, Australia, Norway and Canada. Since August 13, 2015, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Ukraine since January 1, 2016, which joined the anti - Russian sanctions, have been included in the list of these countries. At first, the ban was introduced for one year. In 2015 it was extended to August 5, 2016, in June 2016 - until the end of 2017, in June 2017 - until the end of 2018.
Meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, fish and fish products, vegetables and fruits fell under the ban. Since November 1, 2016, the food embargo has been extended to salt. Since October 27, 2017, the ban has been extended to live pigs, with the exception of purebred pedigree animals, as well as the supply of fresh, chilled or frozen food by-products.
