The volume of sanctions products destroyed since August 6, 2015 exceeded 26 thousand tons
During this period, 26,627.6 tons of prohibited products were detained. Most of them – 25,563.6 tons were crop products. There were detained about 1.1 thousand tons of livestock products.
The destruction of contraband products from the countries under "sanctions" has been going on since August 6, 2015 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On certain special economic measures applied to ensure the security of the Russian Federation" (signed on July 29, 2015).
The food embargo has been in effect in Russia since August 7, 2014 for products from the USA, the EU, Australia, Norway and Canada. On August 13, 2015, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein that joined the anti - Russian sanctions were included in the list of these countries and Ukraine - since January 1, 2016. First, the ban was introduced for one year. In 2015, it was extended until August 5, 2016, in June 2016 - until the end of 2017, in June 2017 - until the end of 2018, in June this year-until the end of 2019.
Meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, fish and fish products, vegetables and fruits fell under the ban. Since November 1, 2016 the food embargo has been extended to salt. Since October 27, 2017, the ban has been extended to live pigs, except purebred breeding animals, as well as to the supply of fresh, chilled or frozen food by-products.
