Tkachev: the next three years will be a record for the dairy industry

According to him, the Russian dairy industry is going through difficult times, however, there has been a slight boom thanks to the ongoing programs of state support – reimbursement of the capital expenditure in the construction of dairy farms, subsidies per liter of milk and preferential crediting. Tkachev stressed that the current milk production may pay off in 6-8 years, whereas earlier it took more than 15 years.

"It makes the business unattractive, deeply unprofitable, and the arrival of investors in the dairy industry was minimal. Today the situation has much improved, and I hope that 2017-2020 years will be a record for us in terms of development of the dairy industry," - said the Minister.

According to the National Union of milk producers (Soyuzmoloko), in 2016, milk production in Russia decreased by 0.2% and amounted to 30.7 million tons, including marketable milk - 20.3 million tons.

Earlier Tkachev said that Russia needs to increase milk production to 36 million tons per year by 2020.
