The leader of dairy farming in Udmurtia – agricultural production cooperative Kolos of Vavozh district – has started implementing a new investment project. In 2020, the first large dairy complex for 1712 cows was fully launched here, which allowed the republic to start production of milk on an industrial scale (24 hours a day). Today, a new large-scale construction has started in the neighborhood, reported in the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture to The DairyNews.

In the agricultural production cooperative Kolos of Vavozh district of Udmurtia, without slowing down, they are building a second large dairy complex, designed for housing 2,250 cattle. According to the project, it will consist of 6 buildings – 4 dairy farms for 400 cows each, a maternity barn for 450 animals and a dairy block, which will also be equipped with a milking parlor of the industrial type "Carousel".

The builders arrived at the construction site in May 2021, and today several powerful frames of future livestock facilities have been erected. A new construction site is in full swing next to the first megafarm for 1,712 cattle, which was fully launched on the farm last year. Both large dairy plants - and this is what you can call the huge buildings that have been built in an open field - will be connected to each other by a road.

‘We are building a new livestock facility at the expense of the profit that we already receive at the first complex – three cowsheds of 400 cows with silage pits and a feed center cost us 500 thousand rubles. We expect that the new construction will fully pay off in five years. Many people take out loans, but we build at the expense of our own finances. If you want to get a quick return, you need to do everything quickly. It is economically unprofitable to delay the construction period. The faster you build it, the faster the facility will start to make a profit,’ says Vladimir Krasilnikov, director of the agricultural production cooperative Kolos.

The first megafarm was built here in three years, the second is planned for two, the approximate date of completion is December 2022. This year, the task is to finish the maternity barn, which will serve both complexes. The minimum task is to build a milk block in order to bring heating system inside and do installation in winter. In addition, to build the frame of two cowsheds. If there is a frame, you can continue building in winter.

‘It will be easier to increase the milking herd with our large livestock, some of the animals will be brought fr om old farms. In addition, we use sexed semen - this is a 98-99% guarantee that heifers will be born. Today, our dairy herd is 3,500 cows. It will take a year to fill the second large complex 100%. At the same time, 12 thousand cattle is our lim it,’ the director concluded.

Large farms are the future of dairy farming in Udmurtia, he believes. So, with the introduction of the first complex, milk production in the farm has increased by more than 20 tons of milk per day. In 2020, it gave a 10% increase in gross milk production in the republic. The average daily milk yield here reached 47 tons, but recently, due to the heat, a slight decrease was recorded - up to 40-41 tons.
