US PepsiCo “eliminates” Omsk Region milk producers?
Gorkovsky Dairy Plant in Omsk Region (Russia) was closed down – its supplier unexpectedly refused to continue cooperation: “one company” offered better terms of payment. This example is not singular – before a dairy in Isilkul (Omsk Region, Russia) was also closed on the initiative of its owner, PepsiCo.
Vitaly Lebedev, Gorkovsky Dairy Plant tenant, believes, “one company” – is a foreign corporation, which forces local market change its usual course of work because pays the milk producers ahead. Local officials refused to help businessmen, regional Ministry of Agriculture announced the “dairy cluster” with Americans to be launched in the region based on cooperation of Omsk producers with PepsiCo.
The situation is not as optimistic as the local officials see it. According to Lebedev, the population of milking herd in the region is decreasing very fast and is likely to disappear at all in three years. Some market representatives believe, the plant “Vita” (Isilkul, Omsk Region, Russia) was acquired by PepsiCo in order to eliminate one of the strongest competitors and to monopolize the market at a cheap rate.
