Vasily Finogeev: export of dairy products should focus on products with a long shelf life
As Vladimir Skvortsov, Deputy Director of the Department of food and processing industry of the Ministry of agriculture of Russia, said during his speech at the industry conference in Barnaul, from 2017 to 2024, the export of dairy products will grow by 15%. At the same time, the value of exports of the dairy category will grow at a slower pace and will amount to about $ 0.8 billion by 2024.- Priority areas for the export of dairy products are China, Southeast Asia, CIS countries, Middle East, - said Skvortsov.
Vasily Finogeev in his comments to The DairyNews stressed that when choosing milk, many people prefer well-known brands and manufacturers. After all, it is quite logical for the consumer to seek to know how the product is made and where raw material comes from. Guarantee of naturalness is an important criterion for the buyer.
- The consumer has little faith in the domestic product; the information about a huge amount of falsified products is widely spread in masses. It is necessary to prove the opposite: that there is no falsification in the market, but there is milk and products based on milk fat substitutes. The consumer should be able to choose being aware of what he is buying. Besides, it is necessary to inculcate the culture of consumption, to talk about the beneficial properties of milk, to promote dairy products, – suggested Vasily Finogeev.
Speaking about exports, the head of a large dairy enterprise in Yaroslavl region stressed the need to develop the direction, including in the dairy industry. Deliveries of products abroad should be expanded, but first it is necessary to provide the domestic consumer, ridding the market of substandard products, believes the Director of the agricultural enterprise "Krasny mayak".
- Last week I was in Belarus – there are enough Russian-made products on the shelves. Exports need to be developed, but at the same time it is necessary to understand what product we are going to export. I am not sure that much should be expected from raw milk in this direction. The products with a long shelf life are likely to have many more chances. I hope we will live till happy days when we will sell enough domestic cheese abroad, - said Finogeev.
Vasily Finogeev called the growth of income the driving factor of positive dynamics of milk consumption. According to him, milk consumption in our country is a national feature, but we can talk about positive dynamics in the future only if the income of population becomes higher.
Earlier at the conference, the experts expressed the opinion that the growth of milk consumption depends on the growth of real income of the population.
