Vietnam is a promising market for the export of Russian dairy products

At the seminar there was discussed the possibility of supplying Russian dairy products to the EU.

According to Ekaterina Zakharova, Russian dairy products are currently uncompetitive on the European market.

According to Ekaterina Zakharova, the average fat in milk in the EU in March 2019 was - 4.13%, the average protein - 3.41%. In Russia, according the estimates the Center the average fat is 3.65%, protein - 3.07%.

The average price of milk in May 2019 in the EU was 34.11 euros per 100 kg or 24.73 rubles per kg. For comparison, the Index DIA in May 2019 was 25.96 rubles/kg. 

"The EU has high requirements for the quality of raw milk and dairy products, we do not have preferential terms of trade with EU countries, the Union successfully promotes its products to foreign markets, its market is protected by both tariff and non-tariff measures", Ekaterina Zakharova said.

According to analysts of DIA the interesting market for developing exports of Russian dairy products can be Vietnam.

In 2016, an agreement on the establishment of a free trade zone between the EAEU and Vietnam which creates more favorable trade conditions came into force,.

"Vietnam is a growing market; there is a growing population, per capita consumption. Over the past eighteen years, the consumption of milk per capita in this country has increased six times to 21.9 kg," said Ekaterina Zakharova.
