Vladimir Surovtsev: we expect a further decrease in consumption of dairy products in Russia
‘It is not known exactly how much consumption will decrease – there are many factors involved. The most important of them will be how real incomes of the population will change, not on average, but by income groups. Middle-and low-income groups are now forced to save on everything, including changing their consumption patterns. And dairy products are not the cheapest category of food in terms of kcal,’ said Vladimir Surovtsev.
The expert added that agricultural producers should not hope for a significant increase in prices for raw milk. It would be more rational to proceed from the current price situation and ‘plan activities based on the current price ratio’, taking into account the high probability that the rate of inflation may go up, and the price of resources will increase.
Earlier, The DairyNews with reference to the Center for economic forecasting of Gazprombank reported that in the crisis, the decline in the purchasing power of the population would directly affect such categories of goods as natural dairy products and meat products.
