After a twelve-month increase, the average value of the FAO Price Index for dairy products continued to decline for the second month in a row and in July amounted to 116.5 points, which is 3.4 points (2.8 percent) lower than in June, reported in the FAO press service to The DairyNews.
At the same time, at the current level, the value of this index was 14.7 points (14.5 percent) higher than the level of the corresponding period last year. In July, there was a decrease in international quotations of all dairy products included in this index, and the prices for skimmed milk powder, butter, whole milk powder and cheese significantly decreased, which is mainly due to a decrease in import demand for spot supplies.
The international quotations of dairy products were also affected by the slowdown in market activity in the Northern Hemisphere due to ongoing summer holidays and the expected growth of export supplies in the coming period, especially from Oceania.
